Permitting gets underway this week for the Bear Lodge mine, near Sundance. Rare earths are a group of metals that are critical to high tech devices like smartphones and lasers. They’re currently mined almost exclusively in China. Rare Element Resources’ George Byers says the company is hoping to change that.
Sat, 12 Apr 2014 00:23:58 +0000 Stephanie Joyce 56719 at http://wyomingpublicradio.net First U.S. Rare Earth Minerals Mine In Decades Could Be In Wyoming WSGS study lists potentially abundant rare earth deposits http://wyomingpublicradio.net/post/wsgs-study-lists-potentially-abundant-rare-earth-deposits

The Wyoming State Geological Survey has released a study showing an abundance of rare earth metals in rock samples from across the state.
Tue, 04 Jun 2013 22:58:49 +0000 Rebecca Martinez 41792 at http://wyomingpublicradio.net WSGS study lists potentially abundant rare earth deposits Rare earths processing plant planned in Wyoming http://wyomingpublicradio.net/post/rare-earths-processing-plant-planned-wyoming
Many of today’s technologies are possible because of a special mineral group called rare earth elements. Currently, China produces about 97-percent of all rare earths consumed, but a global race is underway to produce more. The recent discovery of rare earths in the northwest corner of the state may make Wyoming a major player, and plans for a proposed processing plant may change the game even more for producers and consumers.
Wed, 30 Nov 2011 01:27:58 +0000 Tristan Ahtone 15755 at http://wyomingpublicradio.net Rare earths processing plant planned in Wyoming
