State Senate to take up anti-gay union measure

Cheyenne, Wyo. – A bill that would say only marriages and civil unions between one man and one woman can be recognized in Wyoming may finally get a hearing on the Senate floor.

After delaying action on the bill, the State Senate may debate the measure as early as Wednesday. Senate Majority Floor leader Tony Ross says he fears the bill goes too far in barring recognition of civil unions between gay couples.

Wind tower manufacturing plant to bring jobs to Cheyenne

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Laramie County soon will be home to a wind tower manufacturing plant that should employ 150 people.

Governor Matt Mead announced Tuesday morning that Gestamp Renewables and Worthington Industries will be involved in a joint venture at the new Swan Ranch economic development site south of Cheyenne.

Public official-turned-activist plans protest of anti-gay marriage measure

Laramie, Wyo. – A former state official and his wife plan to burn their marriage license on the steps of the Wyoming Capitol Building, to protest a bill moving forward in the Wyoming Legislature. If it's passed and signed by the governor, House Bill 74 would change Wyoming law to specify that the state only recognizes marriages between one man and one woman.

Wyo lawmakers turn to the budget

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Wyoming lawmakers began work on the $215 million supplemental budget on Monday. It would leave a little over a billion dollars in reserve. Some wonder if that is too much money. But Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Phil Nicholas told the Senate that the reserve should actually be much larger than it is.

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Wyoming lawmakers are questioning a decision to deny a request for several million dollars to help the state meet a possible shortfall in the Medicaid budget. The legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee discussed the cut on Monday, during a review of Wyoming's proposed supplemental budget.

Wyoming challenges EPA greenhouse regs in court

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Wyoming has mounted a legal challenge to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's regulation of greenhouse gas emissions in the state.

State officials say the EPA didn't give Wyoming enough time to come up with a state plan to regulate greenhouse gases - just nine days before the Dec. 22 deadline.

Wyoming didn't make the deadline, so the EPA has stepped in for the state and taken charge of issuing greenhouse gas permits in Wyoming.

Wyo Senate approves Teton land sale

Cheyenne, Wyo. – The Wyoming Senate has given final approval to a bill that authorizes the sale of state land located inside Grand Teton National Park to the federal government.

Under the deal, the state would sell 1,300 acres of school trust land for roughly $105 million. Money from sale would go into a trust account that funds public education.
