Laramie, Wy – University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan says it is time to beef up the school's graduate programs. As he looks to the future, Buchanan says graduate programs are every bit as important as undergraduate programs. Several years ago, U-W cut back on graduate programs to focus on improving undergraduate education. But Buchanan says that mission was accomplished, so it's time to focus on making graduate education better. This includes attracting more and stronger students.

Wind River, Wy – Utility provider SourceGas is looking at
installing pipelines that would deliver natural gas to homes on the
Wind River Indian Reservation.
Many homes on the reservation rely on tanks filled with the more
costly propane for heating and other uses.
Switching reservation homes from propane to natural gas could
save up to a total of $500,000 in one year.
SourceGas is still working to determine how much it will cost to
install the pipeline infrastructure.

Laramie, Wy – The University of Wyoming has received another donation to strengthen oil and natural gas research. Anadarko is giving U-W one point five million dollars to establish an endowment to allow U-W students and faculty to work with company employees.
The state will match the donation, increasing the endowment to three million dollars.

Cheyenne, WY – Livestock officials have launched an investigation into the possibility of a second Wyoming cow testing positive for brucellosis.

State veterinarian Walter Cook said today that officials have preliminarily traced the recent detection of an infected cow at a Nebraska slaughterhouse to a herd in Sublette County of western Wyoming.

Cook says the herd will be tested to determine if other cattle are infected with the disease, which can cause pregnant cows to abort their calves.

Laramie, WY – The University of Wyoming is ramping up sustainable business instruction. Professor Eric Arnould says the legislature gave new money for the College of Business two years ago to establish the program. Since then, Arnould says businesses have looked for new ways to reduce their waste and repair their relationship with the community and environment: "Business have figured out they are concerned about more than making money and keeping the business in business. Their sphere of responsibility is larger than that."

Pinedale, Wy – Trace amounts of hydrocarbons have been
found for the first time in a livestock water well bordering a natural gas drilling area in southwest Wyoming.
The Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Bureau of Land Management say the stock well is on the edge of the
Pinedale Anticline, where gas drilling has been occurring. Officials say the concentrations of hydrocarbons found in the

Laramie, Wy – A University of Wyoming economist says people in this state will generally benefit from the federal takeover of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Sherrill Shaffer says the only people in the state who have reason to be worried are those who have stock in the two mortgage giants.
"It should stabilize the financial markets broadly, and especially the mortgage markets, it should have the effect over the next few month of keeping mortgage rates from going as high as they might otherwise. It should make investors somewhat less nervous."

Jackson, Wy – Growing support for nuclear power has a legislative committee looking into a new uranium program at the University of Wyoming. Mark Northam directs U-W's School of Energy Resources. He discussed the uranium proposal with the legislature's minerals committee today (Tuesday). Northam says the new uranium program would hire about four new U-W faculty members, who would focus on improving uranium mining technology and managing groundwater. He says the committee agreed that would be a good start.

Laramie, WY – The Wyoming Cowboys will need to find a way to score some points in practice this week, following a 23-3 loss to Air Force on Saturday.

Five turnovers did the Cowboys in on Saturday and it left running back Wynel Seldon frustrated. Seldon, who lost a fumble that led to a touchdown said that the Cowboys did many things well, but lost focus at key times.
