Social Security debit cards available

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Wyoming is one of a dozen Western states where the Treasury Department is introducing a Social Security debit
card.

It can be used to pay bills or draw cash. There is no sign-up fee and no bank account is required.

About two million Social Security recipients are getting sign-up
information with their September checks. The other states are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Recipients can sign up by phone, 1-877-212-9991, or online.

Panel: economics left out of energy debate

Laramie, Wyo. – The economics of America's energy debate are often left out of the discussion.

That's according to panelists at a University of Wyoming energy economics summit Thursday.

Carbon capture, clean coal, and oil extraction are topics of the day. But the governor's energy advisor Rob Hurless says politicians, environmentalists, and sometimes even industry ignore underlying business principles.

Barrasso Praises Palin

Cheyenne, Wyo. – Wyoming Sen. John Barrasso is praising
John McCain's pick of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin for a running mate.

Barrasso is at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn. He says Palin is strong on Second Amendment rights, knows
energy issues and knows public lands issues.

Barrasso says Palin's speech Wednesday night "electrified" the convention audience, and that included the delegates from Wyoming.
