LCCC elects Schaffer to become next president

Joe Schaffer is president-elect of Laramie County Community College.

On January 17th, Joe Schaffer will become the new president of Laramie County Community College.

On Wednesday, the college's board of trustees unanimously voted to appoint Schaffer to the position. LCCC's Public Relations Director Lisa Murphy says the new partnership will help the college to continue moving forward.

"Dr. Schaffer is going to bring a lot of energy, a lot of enthusiasm, and a lot of intelligence. He knows the academic world, he knows the communication world, and he also knows how to integrate into the community."

'The Descendants': In Paradise, A Stranger To Himself

Writer-director Alexander Payne is either the American cinema's most acerbic humanist or its most empathetic jerk. Whichever it is, the protagonists of the novels he adapts are outsiders who pay an emotional price for their sense of superiority.

Payne's The Descendants is his first film to be told from the perspective of a person of privilege, but real-estate lawyer Matt King (George Clooney) is the ultimate outsider: a stranger to his family and his lifelong home, Hawaii.

Head On Crash Resulting In Five Deaths May Have Been Suicide

Authorities believe a head-on crash that killed five people near Lander last week wasn't an accident but a suicide that resulted in the deaths of four others.

Seventeen year-old Mathew Denton was driving a Chevy Suburban northbound on Wyoming 789, when it crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a Dodge caravan carrying four occupants.

Investigators found that Denton had been driving 97 miles per hour, and there was no evidence of brake marks from his vehicle or an attempt to avoid the collision, according to a Wyoming Highway Patrol statement.

Gas developer drops Lake DeSmet prospects, sets sights on Southwest Wyoming

A Casper-based developer is shifting attention away from a contentious natural gas-to-liquids plant on Lake DeSmet, and is instead eyeing southwest Wyoming as a potential location for the proposed operation.

NERD Gas Company is looking to construct a facility to convert natural gas into gasoline. If constructed, the plant would be the first of its kind in the country.

Rep. Lummis calls for Eric Holder's resignation

U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has admitted things went wrong when the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted a firearms-trafficking sting.

Now, Congressional Republicans, including U.S. Representative Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming are calling for Holder’s resignation.

His movies find comedy in the crises of his flawed protagonists — among them Matthew Broderick as a high school teacher in Election, Jack Nicholson as a widower in About Schmidt and Paul Giamatti as a struggling author and wine snob in Sideways, for which Payne shared an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay.
