Affordable Housing Advocates: Help Low Income Residents

Laramie, WY – Affordable housing advocates say some low-income residents of the state are living in bad housing conditions, and the state should do more to help. Forest Neuerburg of the Wyoming Housing Network says there's nothing wrong with trailer parks per se, but some of those trailers are too old. He says the state could provide more funding to the Wyoming Community Development Authority in the form of grants or low-interest loans. That could help get more affordable housing built.

Cody High Graduate at Virginia Tech is Safe

Laramie, Wy – It's unknown exactly how many Wyomingites attend Virginia Tech, but there's at least one. A Cody High graduate is at school there. Officials from the high school say they heard the student is safe and was not on campus today when the shootings took place.

More Scholarship Money at Casper College

Laramie, Wy – Casper College plans to begin offering scholarships in addition to what the state's Hathaway Scholarship is providing to students.
The program is called Hathaway Plus.
The criteria to qualify for Hathaway Plus are the same as for the main Scholarship. Students need to have an adequate high school grade-point average and A-C-T score.

UW Waits for More Information out of Virginia Tech

Laramie, Wy – Officials at the University of Wyoming are watching the events at Virginia Tech closely. University spokesperson, Jay Fromkin, says he cannot comment on whether or not security levels on campus changed in response. But, he says the school does have an established emergency response plan. As for whether or not something like this could happened at U-W Fromkin says that's something difficult to figure out, especially at this early stage.
Fromkin says the university is offering counseling services to students Tuesday evening.
