Penalty Measure Seen as Anti-Abortion by Some

Cheyenne, WY – The Senate is debating a bill that would add an additional penalty if an unborn child is killed when the mother is murdered. It is viewed as a controversial measure by some who think it gives protections to fetuses that are not part of Wyoming law. Some see it as an anti-abortion measure. But Senator Charles Scott says that view is only being offered by extremists. Senator Rae Lynn Job disagrees, saying that there is no evidence that the bill offers any additional protections for women. The bill will be debated two more times.

Housing Development Funding Slashed

Cheyenne, WY – The state House has cut the money going to a program to build more housing in the state. Originally the bill would have put 30 million dollars into the program, now it's down to one million. That's enough to develop 50 homes or essentially a pilot project. Opponents of the house-building bill say it gets the state involved in the free market and subsidizes housing developers. But Representative Bernadine Craft from Rock Springs argues it is instead, a chance to create needed infrastructure for new affordable housing.
