Laramie, Wy – Federal officials are gearing up to respond to any allegations of election fraud or voter rights abuses on Election Day in Wyoming.
U-S Attorney Matt Mead says that a lawyer in his office will be on duty on Election Day to respond to any calls from the public.
Mead also says that the F-B-I will have special agents in each field office ready to respond.

Laramie, Wy – A spokesman for Idaho Governor Jim Risch says Risch will not apologize for ordering an emergency hunt in September. That's despite news the elk tested negative for disease.
Risch signed ordered the destruction of an estimated 160 domesticated elk that escaped in August from a private hunting preserve.
It is close to Yellowstone National Park and some feared the escaped elk could spread disease and pollute the gene pool of wild elk in the park and surrounding areas including in Wyoming.

Laramie, Wy – A Campbell County jury Friday found a Gillette man guilty of charges of murder and conspiracy. The case started after the death of a teenager who was strangled and dumped by the side of an interstate highway last year.
The jury found Kent Alan Proffit Senior guilty of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Jeremy Forquer in Gillette last year.
Proffit showed little emotion at the verdict. He said he was shocked at the verdict.

Washington D-C – The U-S Agriculture Department put out
a positive report today (Thursday) on the possible benefits of the
Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad expansion into Wyoming.
The agency says it could save federal taxpayers 240 (m) million
dollars a year in reduced corn subsidy payments and even more when
soybeans, wheat and other grains are factored in.
The report says the increased rail competition would lower
shipping rates, which increases profits to farmers and drops the
need for farm subsidies.

Laramie, Wy – The Laramie police will have their hands full on Saturday. There's a football game and a basketball game at U-W plus Vice President Dick Cheney is visiting the city, too. Laramie police will provide security at all three events. Laramie chief of police Bob Deutsch says the police are bracing for it. He does say it will be a challenge.
Deutsch says he'll have about twice as many officers as usual on duty Saturday. He says he'll even put on a uniform and join the patrol.

Bismark, North Dakota – Governor Freudenthal says electric customers want cheap power, but they also want reduced pollution -- and less carbon dioxide emissions.
Freudenthal says those things are going to drive up the cost of
electricity, and customers need to know that.
Freudenthal spoke today (Thursday) to the annual meeting of
Basin Electric Power Cooperative in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Basin intends to build a new coal-fueled power plant near
Gillette. The plant should be running in 2011.
