Riverton Looking for Solutions to Crow Problem

Laramie, Wy – So far, the city of Riverton hasn't succeeded in a variety of efforts to drive out its nuisance crows.
Mayor John Vincent had police shoot more than five-thousand of the birds last year. This year, the city is chemically treating trees and setting up electronic deterrent devices to drive off the crows. The city has also hired a falconer.
Now, a Councilman has an idea. He says crows always go to the brightest spot.

Exisiting Highways Are The Priority

Laramie, Wy – If the Wyoming department of transportation does not get more money for road maintenance Wyoming highways particularly interstate 80 will see much costlier replacement costs. Chief Engineer Delbert McComie says one off shoot of the current problems is that plans to turn two lane roads into four lane highways will be placed on hold.
McComie says the state needs 500 million dollars to in the next two years to try and get caught up with current road needs.

Solving Dental Shortage Is A Goal

Laramie, Wy – One of the focuses of the Wyoming health care commission will be to try and figure out how to bring more dentists to the state. Beth Worthen of the Commission says they have an aging population in that area and studies suggest that many counties only have one. Worthen says finding a solution will be one of their upcoming goals. Senator Charles Scott is supporting paying for some Wyoming residents to attend dental school.

Simpson Tried To Be Straight

Cody, Wy – As a member of the Iraq study group former Wyoming U-S Senator Alan Simpson knew he might have a problem. Simpson thought there was a good chance that the recommendations that the bi-partisan group would make would go against wishes of the Bush administration. Simpson is a long time friend of Vice President Cheney, but Simpson says it was clear that a new approach was needed in Iraq. But he figured he would not have been asked if they did not want his opinion.

Sheridan Studying Arts Impacts

Sheridan, Wy – The federal government is funding a study
of how Sheridan can expand its arts community.
The U-S Department of Housing and Urban Development is putting
up 25-thousand for the study through the Wyoming Business Council.
Susan Bigelow is director of grants and development at Sheridan
College. She wrote the application for the grant.
Bigelow says the study will look at arts and culture in the area
and develop a strategy for how to develop it.
Bigelow says she also expects to receive a 34-thousand dollar

New WorkForce Director Picked

Cheyenne, Wy – Governor Dave Freudenthal has appointed
Joan Evans as director of the Wyoming Department of Workforce
Services.
Evans replaces Kathy Emmons, who announced last week that she
would resign as head of the Workforce Services effective January
15th.
Evans is currently the director of the Carbon County Higher
Education Center in Rawlins. Her appointment to Workforce Services
is subject to confirmation by the Wyoming State Senate when the
Legislature convenes next month.
