Cheyenne, WY – Wyoming public schools are having a much easier time giving this year's statewide student academic exams. State schools superintendent Cindy Hill says she hasn't heard any complaints so far about this year's Proficiency Assessments for Wyoming Students, or PAWS, test. Cheyenne, WY – Interior Secretary Ken Salazar says he's optimistic the federal government can come to agreement with the state of Wyoming on how to lift federal protections for wolves in the state. The Obama administration last week announced a settlement with environmental groups that could lift federal wolf protections for wolves in Idaho and Montana. Speaking Tuesday in Cheyenne, Salazar said wolves are now fully recovered in the Northern Rockies. He says he plans to continue talks with Wyoming Gov. Matt Mead over transferring wolf management responsibility to the state.
Cheyenne, WY – Interior Secretary Ken Salazar is headed to Cheyenne to make what's being billed as a "major energy announcement." Gov. Matt Mead plans to join Salazar for Tuesday's announcement. Some environmental groups predict that the announcement could involve coal leases. Interior Department spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff declined to say Monday what the announcement will be about. Encampment, WY – A Utah company plans to operate a sawmill in Encampment to process beetle-killed trees from the Medicine Bow National Forest. Thompson Logging expects to employ 15 to 18 people by mid-April at the sawmill. Company president Terry Thompson says the company expects to be able to operate for years in the area because of the massive amount of beetle-killed timber. Thompson Logging is leasing the sawmill from the town of Encampment. Mahon Timber previously leased the mill. Thompson is based out of Kamas, Utah. It makes graded
