Fremont County Commissioners will appeal districting decision

Laramie, Wyo. – The defendants in Fremont County's ongoing voting rights case plan to appeal a federal judge's most recent decision. This month, Judge Alan Johnson ordered that Fremont County Commissioners should be elected from five single-member districts. That's after Johnson sided with Native American plaintiffs in the case this spring, ruling that the county's system of electing commissioners from one county-wide district diluted the Native American vote.

Lack of whitebark pine could lead to more human-bear encounters

Laramie, Wyo. – Grizzly bear experts are concerned that there will be more bear-human encounters this fall. That's because of the lack of white bark pine cones. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department's Dennie Hammer says bears do have other sources of food aside from white bark pine cones, but he says as they are searching for other food they may run across people.

Wyoming groups respond to postponement of new EPA ozone standard

Laramie, Wyo. – The Environmental Protection Agency has announced that the release of new, nationwide standards for ground-level ozone will be delayed until the end of October. The standards were supposed to be released this month.
