Plan Considered: Motels As Affordable Housing

Laramie, WY – Developers are considering building hotels in Pinedale and then renting the rooms out to gas field workers who need affordable housing. Mindy Crabb of the Sublette County tourism board says she has received about a dozen calls from developers in the last two years who want to build hotels to house workers. Crabb says the county already has enough rooms to meet tourism demand, and the area is at risk of over developing.

Motel Fire in Powell Kills One

Laramie, WY – There's new information on a motel fire in Powell that killed one person Saturday.

The Park County coroner says the victim was 48-year-old Rhonda Cox of Chugwater. Coroner Tim Power says Cox died from smoke
inhalation.

More than 60 other people were evacuated from the two-story Super 8 Motel after it caught fire early Saturday.

Powell Fire Chief Joey Darrah says the building didn't have sprinklers. Individual fire alarms were in each room, but they did not appear to be very loud. It's unknown if the motel was in violation of fire codes.

Two GOP Presidential Candidates Stop in Wyoming

Laramie, WY – Two Republican presidential candidates
stopped in Wyoming on Sunday. Ron Paul of Texas and Duncan Hunter of California both held rallies in Cheyenne. Paul told supporters that he would pull U.S. troops out of Iraq and would downsize the federal government.

Hunter supports the Iraq war effort and enforceable borders. He also thanked the Wyoming National Guard for their help in fighting wildfires in California.
