Laramie, WY – Former U.S. Senator Alan Simpson says the next political battles regarding the war in Iraq will happen around the budget. Simpson spoke to a packed auditorium at the University of Wyoming today. He says a skeptical Congress will be tougher on President Bush's war spending proposals.
"No more will he come in and say 'here's a 79 million supplemental budget for Iraq' and they'll say, 'what's it about? I want to see it,'" Simpson said. Simpson was on the Iraq Study Group, which recommended the troop surge that President Bush is now implementing. But the President rejected the group's recommendation to engage in diplomacy with Iran.
