Laramie, WY – Governor Dave Freudenthal has now nominated two unsuccessful candidates for U-S marshal for Wyoming.
Casper Police Chief Tom Pagel is the latest.
Pagel says he had been through interviews and an FBI background check for the position, but his nomination was torpedoed by a committee that determined some of Pagel's past public comments were "too controversial."
Pagel says he's happy to remain police chief in Casper, a position he's held for eight years.
Former state Division of Criminal Investigation director Kurt Dobbs was the previous nominee before withdrawing because he didn't have a college degree.
Freudenthal Chief of Staff Chris Boswell says the governor is disappointed by the U.S. Department of Justice's decision on Pagel and will submit another nominee.
