Casper, WY – Republican John Barrasso, who was appointed
yesterday (Friday) to the U.S. Senate, has not officially resigned his state Senate seat. Barrasso says his resignation would become official when he takes the U.S. Senate oath of office on Monday. And that will give the Natrona County commission a second legislative seat to fill in the coming weeks. Last week, Democratic state Representative Liz Gentile of Evansville announced she would resign her seat to pursue other career opportunities. Once formally notified of the vacancies, Democratic precinct
committeemen and -women in House District 36 and Republican precinct committeemen and -women in Senate District 27 will have 15 days to select three nominees to fill their seats. They'll forward those names to the Natrona County Commission, which will have five days in each case to pick the new legislator.
