Battle Against Domestic Violence Gets a Boost

Laramie, Wy – The Wyoming Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault received over a million dollars in grants during the last month. The executive director of the coalition, Jennifer Watrin, says this will enable them to expand services for victims. The largest grant they received is for 900 thousand dollars from the Department of Justice. Watrin says it will be used to establish more safe homes. She says the rural nature of the state makes it difficult for victims to travel hundreds of miles to reach a shelter so if individuals will open their homes than it means victims can stay in their community and not have to uproot children.
Watrin says they also received a brand new grant to help with transitional housing for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. The coalition is also in line for a half million dollar grant to partner with the faith community to serve victims better.
