Beartooth Rebuild Will Take A While

Red Lodge, MT – The cost of repairing mudslide damage on the scenic Beartooth Highway is expected to be about $20 Million. And there's no estimate on when the work will be completed. Montana Transportation Director Jim Lynch says there are some areas where the road was completely destroyed by the mudslides. He says workers will almost have to build their way into the project. US Senator Max Baucus says he's confident federal emergency highway money will be available for the project. Merchants in Red Lodge, Montana rely on the business of tourists traveling the highway each summer. They are working with the state and regional travel offices to spread the word about what Red Lodge has to offer, and other ways to get to and from the town.
