Casper, WY – The Fremont County Commission voted
unanimously today (Tuesday) to appoint former House Speaker Eli Bebout to fill the state senate seat vacated by the death last month of Senator Bob Peck of Riverton. Bebout is a 60-year-old Riverton man who ran for governor in 2002. He was defeated by Governor Dave Freudenthal who is now serving his second term. The other two finalists for the senate seat were Fremont County Commissioner Doug Thompson of Jeffrey City and Lois Herbst of Riverton. Herbst is president of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. Thompson abstained from voting on the appointment. Bebout will serve the remainder of Peck's term, which expires
next year. Bebout will have to run for election if he wants to continue to serve beyond that.
