Laramie, Wy – There are at least 14 different hospices in Wyoming. They provide holistic care for dying people. But, if they follow the national trend then they are underused. Dianne Harrington is trying to change that. She works in a Wisconsin hospice and is riding across the country to raise awareness for the service. Harrington is in Wyoming today and said by phone that only 20 percent of people use hospice because many believe that it is only for people dying of cancer, even though that is not true. Also, it is possible to refer yourself to hospice and Harrington says that is not commonly known.
She says hospices also provide bereavement service for families too. Her sister died of cancer more than 25 years ago and did not die at home because her family did not know about hospice.
