Laramie, Wy – An oil and gas industry group is opposing
the proposal by the Bureau of Land Management to charge fees for
each producer's plan to drill for oil and gas.
Marc Smith of the Independent Petroleum Association of Mountain
States says he fees are unfair and could keep smaller operators
He says the smaller producers would likely not be able to drill
on federal lands if they had to pay a fee for each application.
The B-L-M says the fee increases are needed to help pay for the
additional work that is needed with enhanced drilling. They are
currently taking public comment on the proposal that could cost
companies up to four-thousand dollars for a drilling application.
