Bismark, ND – The Bureau of Land Management says for the first time it's selling wild horses to American Indian tribes. The BLM has sold 141 horses to South Dakota's Rosebud Sioux tribe and 120 horses to the Three Affiliated Tribes in North Dakota. More sales to tribes are planned in the next several weeks, bringing the total to more than 500 horses. The sales come amidst some controversy over an amendment to a congressional appropriations bill last year. That allowed for older wild horses sold at auction to be sent to slaughter.
