Evanston, Wy – BP America Production Company announced
today (Wednesday) it will close the Whitney Canyon gas plan
northeast of Evanston by the end of the year, eliminating about 45
Christina Verchere is vice president of BP's Western Wyoming Performance Unit. She says production from the gas
field that feeds Whitney Canyon has fallen by almost 70 percent
since the mid-1980s. And company spokeswoman Paula Barnett says
production at the plant is down even more.
Verchere says closing the plant would extend the life of the
Whitney Canyon gas field.
Gas from the Whitney Canyon field will be processed to Chevron's
Carter Creek facility, and BP will continue to operate its Painter
Complex facility near Evanston.
Meanwhile, BP officials say they'll try to help the plant's
employees find other jobs, possibly including other BP jobs in
Wyoming or elsewhere.
