Brain Scientist Shares Surprising Results At UW

Laramie, WY – An international expert on neuroscience says our actions can have a measurable impact on our brains.

Bryan Kolb is a professor of neuroscience at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada. He lectured at the University of Wyoming Thursday about the latest in brain research. Kolb says there have been a lot of surprises recently in the field.

"The biggest surprise is that things that your father did before you were conceived can influence how your brain develops. So we have a trans-generational genetic effect based on experience in the dad," Kolb said.

For example, drugs in a father's body can affect his sperm, and that can affect his child's brain development.

Kolb says other research shows that the brain is much more malleable than once thought.
