Bureau of Reclamation plans for runoff

Casper, WY – The Bureau of Reclamation plans to intentionally cause a Wyoming reservoir to spill over as the agency prepares for a huge spring runoff.
The U.S. Bureau of Reclamation is letting the 100-year-old
Pathfinder Reservoir fill up now in expectation that water will
start to flow over its spillway the week of May 22.
The reservoir is about 45 miles southwest of Casper.
With an estimated 1.7 million cubic feet of water coming down
the North Platte River in the next few months, the bureau needs to
move more water through Pathfinder than its outlets were built to
handle.
Agency manager John Lawson says the bureau can release more
water from the reservoir by having it spill over.
The other reservoirs along the North Platte were built with
higher outlet capacities.
