Laramie, Wy – A Candidate for Governor says Wyoming needs to give education control back to local school districts. Ron Micheli opposes efforts in the last several years to force school districts to develop a state mandated curriculum and to follow state rules when it comes to new school buildings.
"Because the state controls the purse strings, the state is by and large controlling the curriculum and even to the point of what kind buildings we are building. How much per square foot we can build. So, we need to get more local input and we need to back the state out of some of the decisions that are being made."
Micheli says the state can demand more accountability from school districts without dictating how every dollar is spent.
