Laramie, Wy – A Wheatland native and University of Northern Colorado backup punter is not accused of attempted first degree murder.
Weld County prosecutors filed the formal charge yesterday against 21-year-old Mitchell Cozad. This stems from an alleged stabbing incident of the first string punter on the football team.
Cozad is also charged with second-degree assault.
District attorney's spokeswoman Jennifer Finch says a warrant has been issued for Cozad's arrest, and bail will be set at 500-thousand dollars.
Cozad is NOT yet in custody. His attorney, Joseph A.-Gavaldon, has NOT returned a call today. A man who answered Cozad's cell phone on Thursday hung up without commenting.
