Laramie, Wy – The city of Cheyenne is one of five communities from across the country to receive a grant to foster smart growth. The Environmental Protection Agency is paying for several private consultants to advise Cheyenne officials who are working to implant a plan for growth. Matt Ashby a planner in Cheyenne says this will help implement the community's vision for the future. One example is the desire to have fewer suburbs on the edge of town and more neighborhoods where people can live and easily walk to get their hair cut and drop off a letter.
Ashby says the private consultants will also help streamline the planning process for intelligent development.
56 communities applied to the E-P-A for these five grants. Cheyenne is the only city in Wyoming that received one.
