Laramie, WY – Monday's storm brought Powder River Basin coal mines to a standstill - but major roads re-opened Tuesday, and workers were able to get back to work last night. Arch Coal's Greg Schaefer says that after missing three shifts, the priority was clearing snow drifts as high as four feet.
"The first focus is to get the roads back into condition for haul trucks to pass. So that was really the main focus last evening. We're operating at pretty much full strength today."
Schaefer says this is the first weather-related closure of the year for Arch's Powder River mines - and the company expects one or two of these events each winter.
