Conservation Groups Pleased With Gov

Pinedale, Wy – Conservationists are applauding Governor Dave Freudenthal's letter to the Bureau of Land Management, which calls the Pinedale Management Plan unacceptable. In part, the letter asks the BLM to require gas companies to do mitigation efforts when they drill. Organizer Linda Baker says she was surprised that the Governor took such a strong stand before the public has even seen the changes to the Plan. Normally the Governor or another cooperating agency might reserve their comments for after the public gets a chance to see the document, too. But they're so alarmed that they're starting to tell the BLM right now that they have concerns.

The BLM did not return a request for comment, but a spokeswoman said last week that the BLM is trying to lay out a sensible framework for the allocation of resources.
