Consumers Get New Option for Phone Service

Laramie, Wy – Bresnan Communications, the cable television provider, is now about to get into the telephone industry. It will use the Internet to offer local and long distance service. Regional General Manager, John Gibbs, says they will start in the next few weeks by doing some tests of the technology in Cheyenne. He says they will make sure it works properly with a small group of people there before they roll out the service in Cheyenne and other markets in Wyoming.
Gibbs says they would love to see that happen this year, but they are still looking at how state regulations would affect this technology. The service will work exactly like existing phones and Gibbs says customers can even keep their old phone numbers.
He says the service will include unlimited local and long distance calls as well as 9-1-1 service.
