Cheyenne, Wy – Bids for new school buildings in Wyoming are quickly rising and officials say they are much higher then neighboring states. Wyoming School Facilities Commission Director Bubba Shivler says some bids are millions more then they think they should be and in some cases are 30 percent higher then similar bids in neighboring states. Shivler says part of the problem is that there is a lot of other construction going on in the state, which competes with school projects.
Shivler says most of the problem has centered on some of the smaller school projects. He's hoping that when some larger high schools come up for bid there will be more competition. If not, Shivler says they may need to look at how schools are designed and come up with more simple designs.
