Laramie, WY – The Dakota, Minnesota and Eastern Railroad, or D-M and E, has filed lawsuits against more than a dozen northeastern Wyoming landowners for a proposed rail project. The railroad filed the suits in Campbell County and Weston County district courts to get access to the land in order to make surveys and studies. The company wants to build 260 miles of new rail line in Wyoming to extend service to the Powder River Basin coal fields. Rancher Mike Harris is one of the landowners being sued by the railroad. He says the DM&E never asked what he would require for an access agreement. D-M and E spokeswoman Liz Holman says the company is committed to being fair with landowners and that all the landowners have had invitations to meet with her.
