Laramie, Wy – Wyoming is again one of the worst states in the country for the number of women killed by men. A survey using the latest data from 2002 shows Wyoming women are murdered by men at the fifth highest rate. The report done by the Violence Policy Center shows that guns were used in half of the homicides in Wyoming and over 50 percent nationally. The Center's Marty Langley says another thing they found is that owning a gun does not make a woman safer.
Langley says a reason for this is that almost all women are killed by someone they know and are not murdered as part of another crime like rape or robbery.
The report shows all six female victims in Wyoming in 2002 knew the attacker.
