Feds, State Prepare for Bird Flu Pandemic

Laramie, WY – To prepare for a possible bird flu pandemic, federal officials are implementing a national strategy to coordinate state, local, and federal responses to an outbreak. But it will fall to the federal government to pursue a vaccine against avian flu or H-5-N-1, but secretary of health and human services mike Leavitt says that could take time. Wyoming has received more than half a million federal dollars to prepare, and this March, the state signed an agreement with the federal health and human services agency outlining the state's responsibilities and plans.
