Laramie, Wy – Officials have declared a state of emergency in Sheridan County because of flooding. Captain Susan Guilford from Sheridan Police Department says so far some roads and bridges have washed out and a few streets are under water in the city.
She says some people may need to evacuate their homes if water levels continue to rise. And Guilford says even though the precipitation is slowing down things might get worse if temperatures warm up later this week and melt the snow in the area.
Another problem is that the sewer level is now near its capacity and Captain Guilford says some people have not been able to use their toilets because of the flooding.
The governor has offered assistance to Sheridan County and the National Guard is set to help.
Captain Guilford says they are already getting a lot of help sandbagging.
