Gillette, WY – Gillette city officials are urging local
residents to cut water use by ten percent in an effort to avoid mandatory water restrictions while the region deals with an ongoing drought. Starting May first, the city will run daily newspaper advertisements recommending ways people can cut their water use. The city also will reach out to children with a program offered through local schools. Last year, Gillette set a single-day record by using more than 14 (M) million gallons of water on July tenth. About nine (M) million gallons of that went toward watering lawns and landscaping. Mike Muirhead is the city's utilities director. He says a ten-percent cut per household is realistic.
