laramie, wy – Governor Dave Freudenthal is again calling on lawmakers to make an across-the-board reduction in the state sales tax. The governor wrote to legislative leaders says the mechanism already is in place to reduce the sales tax by a half-percent. Freudenthal says the law stipulates the sales tax should drop for any time the state general fund has more than 35 (M) million dollars at the end of a fiscal year.Despite a surplus in the billions, that's NOT happening now because the Legislature moves money from the general fund into a separate account at the end of each fiscal year. Freudenthal says the Legislature could save Wyoming residents 70 (M) million dollars a year by NOT making that fund transfer.
