Cheyenne, Wy – A veto by Gov. Dave Freudenthal will enable the state to cut funding for Wyoming's community colleges over the next couple of years, if necessary.
The bill provides more state oversight of construction and
programs at the seven colleges. Freudenthal left most of the
legislation intact in signing it Thursday.
However, he vetoed part of the bill that would have insulated
the colleges from funding cuts in 2010 and 2011. Freudenthal says
Wyoming may need to cut community college funding amid falling
The governor also vetoed $150,000 for a new position to help
oversee construction at the colleges. Freudenthal says the position
would have been redundant.
