Cheyenne, Wy – Governor Dave Freudenthal is warily recommending that the state spend roughly 500 million dollars in this year's supplemental budget, with the money mainly going into building projects and other one time spending. Freudenthal says he does believe the state can safely spend this amount of money. But in his budget message to legislators, Freudenthal also says the national economy may wipe out the projected 400 million dollars in extra money state forecasters had predicted the state will receive. But he adds that he will watch the national economy closely and will reduce spending if necessary. He says he is also asking department heads to draft contingency plans in case budget cutting actually has to occur. Freudenthal will present his proposed budget to the legislatures Joint Appropriations committee next month.
