Cheyenne, Wy – A bill that would put restrictions on young drivers has made it through a first screening in the State Senate. That's despite concerns over whether the measure could have some unintended consequences.
Senator Grant Larson worries that it would allow law enforcement officials to harass young drivers. Larson's worries surround a provision that says drivers under 18 cannot have more then one unrelated young person riding with them. But Carl McDonald of the highway patrol says officers must have another reason to pull a driver over. Senator John Schiffer also questioned why the sponsors insist that a 21 year old licensed driver must be the one who trains a young driver. He'd prefer any licensed driver be allowed perform the task. Senate file 14 moves to second reading.
