Laramie, WY – Five conservation groups have filed a lawsuit to stop coalbed methane development in the Atlantic Rim area of the Red Desert. The area is viewed as a sensitive wildlife area and the groups contend that the two thousand well development approved by the Bureau of Land Management could cause serious damage to the area. The Wyoming Outdoor Council's Bruce Pendry says that at one time, the B-L-M was considering more reasonable options. But he says the plan they approved won't work.
The lawsuit is trying to force the B-L-M into implementing an option that will have less of an impact on the area and a more staggered approach to development.
