Powell, WY – More than a third of the students at
Northwest College who received Hathaway scholarships for this school year have lost those scholarships.
The students were unable to maintain certain eligibility requirements.
Deborah Paul is interim Hathaway Scholarship specialist for Northwest College. She says 164 students at Northwest College were on the scholarship.
That number now is down to about 100. Paul says the main reason is students aren't completing the required number of credit hours.
The Legislature created the Hathaway scholarship in 2006 to encourage more students to attend college in Wyoming. Students can earn up to $1,600 a semester for college by making good grades in high school and scoring well on the ACT college entrance exam.
