Laramie, Wy – There will be no trial on the smoking ban referendum in Laramie. A judge today ruled that the attorney challenging the validity of the vote did not show that any alleged irregularities affected the outcome so there is no need for a trial.
This is not the end of this case though. City councilor Joe Hageman says there will be an appeal even if he has to pay for it by himself. Hageman may also bring a proposal to the council to change the smoking ban. He says he will get information on sales receipts to see if the ban has affected business in town.
A member of the Laramie Clean Air Coalition says he is happy with the decision and that it will be in the best interest of the city. He says people will find that like in other cities with bans the fears over harm to businesses will be overblown.
