Cheyenne, Wy – Laramie County voters are being asked to expand the board of county commissioners to five members, from the current three. M. Lee Hasenauer, who
circulated petitions to get the measure on the Nov. 2 ballot, says
having five commissioners would reduce the amount of power any one
person has and lead to better decisions. Critics say the measure is unnecessary and expensive. Commission Chairman Jeff Ketcham, who opposes the idea, says it
would add $192,000 to the commissioners' $248,000 budget.
Hasenauer says that estimate is bloated. He says rising tax
revue from wind turbines and oil development will provide more than
enough to pay salaries for the new commissioners' staffs.
