Latest Road Proposal Panned By Game and Fish

Jackson, Wy – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department says a
proposal to realign the highway over Togwotee Pass would harm
wildlife more than the existing route.
The agency is planning a seven-year project to rebuild U-S
Highway 26-287 between Dubois and Grand Teton National Park. The
project would cost an estimated 125 (M) million dollars.
Game and Fish Deputy Director Bill Wichers says a proposed new
route at Rosie's Ridge would cut through dense forest that provides
cover for elk and moose.
Where the highway is now, winter habitat for elk would be
created. But Wichers says that's not enough new habitat to make up
for the lost habitat.
