The Bureau of land management and the U-S Forest service must respond to a call from environmental groups to conduct an environmental review of western elk feeding grounds or face legal action. Lloyd Dorsey represents the Greater Yellowstone Coalition one of the groups behind the legal maneuver. Dorsey says packing elk into winter feeding grounds increases their risk of disease.
But Wyoming Game and Fish spokesman Eric Kessler says stopping feeding or closing the feed-grounds isn't the right solution. He says that Closing feedgrounds could lead to other problems, such as elk with brucellosis intermingling with livestock.
