Legislature begins redistricting work

Casper, WY – Wyoming lawmakers are planning a series of meetings around the state this summer to hear from the public about how to map out new legislative districts.
The legislative panel charged with drawing new district lines
adopted a list of principles on Tuesday it will follow in the
redistricting process. Those include keeping the new districts
contiguous and compact while allowing them to reflect communities
of interest, and following county boundaries as much as possible
while avoiding the dilution of the rights of minority groups.
The goal of the Joint Corporations, Elections and Political
Subdivisions Interim Committee is to address uneven population
changes since the last statewide redistricting 10 years ago.
The new information shows population rose sharply in areas of
western Wyoming, as well as in Campbell County in the northeast.
The new districting plan will go before the Legislature next year
for approval.
