Casper, Wy – A committee that is establishing academic
requirements for qualifying for the new Hathaway Scholarship has
decided to recommend phasing in those requirements over two years.
The Hathaway Scholarship "success curriculum" would then be
fully implemented in 2011.
The Education Merit Scholarship Committee is also talking about
allowing students to opt out of the success curriculum if they have
their parents' permission.
The committee plans to introduce the "opt-out" policy in
separate legislation next year.
Under the proposal, students would NOT be required to pursue the
success curriculum. But those who choose NOT to do so would NOT be
eligible for the Hathaway.
