Laramie, WY – Virtual schools are becoming more common in Wyoming. Last year there were two online schools... and this fall two others are scheduled to open. The schools are based in Wyoming school districts, but are available to students across the state. Teachers can also be anywhere. But the president of the Wyoming Education Association, Kathryn Valido, says when districts hire they need to make sure they choose carefully. "Just because you are a good teacher in front of a classroom of students or working face to face, may not translate to an online environment."
The University of Wyoming College of Education so far does not offer a course in online teaching, but the districts that offer the virtual schools do some specific training.
