New Push to Solve Worker Crunch in Campbell County

Laramie, WY – Laborers coming to Campbell County for work are still having problems finding a place to live. That's according to the executive director of the Campbell County Economic Development Corporation Ruth Benson. Benson says there is not enough low income apartments in Gillette, causing a major housing problem since about 300 new workers have come to the area.

It's very difficult for private developers to make a profit at that level of rent and get their bank loans, Benson says.

Benson says the lack of housing has been one of the biggest obstacles in recruiting workers to the county. But she hopes the corporation's new Power campaign will help. The initiative launched by the development corporation this week hopes to raise 2-million dollars in the next five years from investors.
